Prophet Yusuf (peace be upon him) had an extraordinary life filled with many trials and tests. As a young boy, he was betrayed by his own brothers, who were jealous of him. They threw him into a well, and he was later found and sold into slavery in Egypt. Yusuf was taken into the house of an Egyptian official, where he grew up, but he faced further challenges, including false accusations and imprisonment.
Despite these hardships, Yusuf remained patient, faithful, and close to Allah. His unwavering trust in Allah’s plan led him to rise to a high position in Egypt, where he was eventually reunited with his family. By the end of his journey, Yusuf had witnessed Allah’s wisdom and mercy in every part of his life.
As a prophet and a leader, Yusuf made this humble dua to Allah:
“فَاطِرَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ أَنتَ وَلِىِّۦ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۖ تَوَفَّنِى مُسْلِمًۭا وَأَلْحِقْنِى بِٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ”
“O Originator of the heavens and the earth! You are my Guardian in this world and the Hereafter. Allow me to die as one who submits (to You) and join me with the righteous.” (Quran 12:101)
This dua reflects Yusuf’s gratitude to Allah, his devotion, and his wish to remain among the faithful until his last breath. It also shows his hope to be with the righteous in the Hereafter.
The story of Yusuf’s life teaches us about patience, forgiveness, and trusting Allah’s wisdom, no matter the trials we face. His dua reminds us to always seek closeness to Allah, both in this life and in the next, and to aspire to be with the righteous.
