Prophet Zakariya (peace be upon him) was a pious man and a devoted prophet of Allah. He was responsible for caring for Maryam (Mary) in the temple and witnessed the miracles Allah provided for her, strengthening his faith. Although Zakariya and his wife were both elderly and without children, he deeply desired a child who could carry on his legacy of faith and serve Allah. Seeing the blessings Allah bestowed on Maryam inspired him to make a heartfelt dua, asking Allah for a righteous child.

Zakariya prayed to Allah, saying:

“رَبِّ هَبْ لِى مِن لَّدُنكَ ذُرِّيَّةًۭ طَيِّبَةً ۖ إِنَّكَ سَمِيعُ ٱلدُّعَآءِ”

“My Lord! Grant me—by Your grace—righteous offspring. You are certainly the Hearer of all prayers.” (Quran 3:38)

In response to his sincere prayer, Allah blessed him with a son, Yahya (John), who became a prophet and was known for his righteousness and devotion.

The story of Zakariya’s dua teaches us that nothing is impossible for Allah, and He hears and responds to sincere prayers. It reminds us to have faith in Allah’s mercy, even when something seems unlikely, and to trust in His power to grant blessings in miraculous ways.
