Prophet Lut (peace be upon him) was sent by Allah to guide the people of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, where he lived. The people of these cities were deeply involved in immoral and sinful behavior, particularly engaging in acts of corruption and indecency. Lut repeatedly warned them to turn away from their sinful ways, worship Allah, and live with purity and justice. Despite his efforts, most of his people rejected his message and continued with their corrupt and immoral actions.
Feeling helpless and burdened by the evil around him, Prophet Lut turned to Allah with a heartfelt dua:
“رَبِّ ٱنصُرْنِى عَلَى ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ”
“My Lord! Help me against the people of corruption.” (Quran 29:30)
In response to his prayer, Allah sent angels to deliver Lut and his family (except his wife, who remained with the disbelievers) from the impending punishment. The angels warned Lut to leave the city before dawn, and shortly after, Allah brought a severe punishment upon the corrupt people, destroying their cities as a consequence of their disobedience.
The story of Prophet Lut and his dua teaches us to stand firm against corruption and wrongdoing and to seek Allah’s help when faced with difficulties. It is a reminder that Allah supports and protects those who call on Him with sincerity, even when they are surrounded by challenges and hardship.
